Statesmen play to 2-2 tie with Neumann

ASTON, Pa.—
The Hobart hockey team played through overtime to a 2-2 tie with Neumann University. The Statesmen are now 10-9-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the ECAC West, and the Knights record now stands at 12-6-1 and 2-5-1 in the conference.

Junior Bobby Hannah put Hobart up 1-0 just 44 seconds into the game. Juniors Frank Salituro and Brad Richard set up the play. It was Hannah's third goal of the season. Neumann answered 3:58 later when William Lacasse capitalized on a power play to make it 1-1. Cory Park and Ross MacKinnon earned the assists.

At 2:10 in the second period, senior Greg Ciciola took back the lead for Hobart with a power-play goal. First-year Ryan Michel and junior Ryan Corcoran tallied the assists. Ciciola now leads the Statesmen with nine goals this season.

With 3:31 remaining in regulation, Park found the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2. Marlon Gardner and Brent Tamane were credited with the assists. The Statesmen were able to kill a Neumann power-play opportunity with 2:05 left in the third to force overtime. Neither team was able to capitalize in the extra five minute of play.

Junior Marty Ausserhofer played all 65 minutes in goal for Hobart. He finished with 28 saves. MacKinnon played 65 minutes in net for the Knights and made 27 saves. Neumann held a slight 30-29 edge in shots. The Statesmen went 1-for-4 on the power play, and the Knights were 1-for-6.

Hobart and Neumann will meet again in Aston, Pa., tomorrow night for another ECAC West game beginning at 7 p.m.
