Box Score
GENEVA, N.Y.--William Smith senior Whitney Frary and sophomore Madeline Buckley each notched two goals and an assist as the No. 2 Heron soccer team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 4-0 in the final game of the 2012 Heron Cup played on Cozzens Field this afternoon.

No. 19 Ithaca topped Babson 3-0 in today's first game of the Heron Cup also played on Cozzens Field.

Senior Renee Jensen tallied two assists for William Smith (2-0). Junior goalie Chelsea Dunay secured her second collegiate shutout, making six saves in all 90 minutes of action in goal.

The Herons started their scoring just 4:24 into the match. Frary connected for her first goal, which came on the first shot of the game, after a crossing pass from the right side from Jensen. The goal was the lone score of the first half.

Frary found the back of the net a second time in the 51st minute, this time off a feed from Buckley. Then the Herons opened things up. Just under five minutes later, Buckley scored a goal of her own, sliding a shot from 25 yards out inside the left post. Jensen again set up the play. Buckley notched her second goal of the game 2:13 later. Frary tapped ahead a short pass from 12 yards out, and Buckley broke through the defense and beat the Blugold's goalie to stretch the William Smith lead to four.

UW-Eau Claire (0-2) had a chance to score with 7:54 left in the match. Ashley O'Connell blasted a free kick into the box where Gina Williams collected and fired on goal, but Dunay came up with the stop. With 59 seconds left, Paige LeGate booted a shot from the right side but Dunay made a diving save to preserve her shutout.

The Herons finished with an 11-10 edge in shots and a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Nina Behrenbrinker played the opening 64:25 in goal for the Blugolds and stopped one shot. Amanda Hakala came in for the final 25:35 and made one save.

William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 8 when they travel to take on top-ranked Messiah College in a non-league match at 1 p.m.
