Stefan Thompson and junior forward
Richie Bonney combined for 38 points and led the Hobart College basketball team to a 65-57 Liberty League victory at St. Lawrence University. The Statesmen improved to 8-5 overall and remained unbeaten (4-0) in conference play.
Thompson was 8-of-14 from the floor with a pair of 3-pointers, finishing the night with a game-high 20 points, as well as a team-high four assists and two steals. Bonney knocked down 7-of-8 from the field on his way to an 18-point game. Sophomore guard

Brady Condlin paced St. Lawrence with 14 points. Janpeter Brase added 12 points, and a team-high five rebounds. Al Jones chipped in 10 points. Payton Stahler scored eight points and registered a game-high five assists.
Both teams shot 50 percent from the field. St. Lawrence had a slim edge in 3-pointers made (5-4), but Hobart made more free throws (15) than the Saints attempted (12).
The first half was tightly contested from start to finish. Neither team led by more than five points (Hobart led 7-2 and 27-22) and the score was tied seven times. Junior guard
Joe Gibbons made the final basket of the opening 20 minutes, sending the Statesmen into halftime with a 32-28 lead.
St. Lawrence opened the second half on a 10-5 run to take a 1-point lead, but the game remained a back-and-forth affair with neither team leading by more than a single possession until less than four minutes remained in the game.
Brase's layup with 7:25 remaining gave St. Lawrence its final lead of the night, 50-48. Hobart scored the game's next nine points to build its largest lead of the game to that point. At the 6:42 mark, Bonney tied the game for the 12th time. After a series of missed shots for both teams, Thompson earned a trip to the free throw line and made both shots for a 52-50 lead. Bonney came up with a steal on the next SLU possession and sophomore guard
Trey Blanding was fouled. He made 1-of-2 to give the Statesmen a 3-point edge.
After a two-minute scoreless streak for both sides, Thompson broke through with consecutive baskets, the latter set up by a steal courtesy of junior guard
Joe Gibbons. Jones made 1-of-2 at the stripe at the 2:03 mark to make it a 6-point game, but Thompson drilled a 3-pointer and Blanding made a pair of free throws to cap a 13-1 surge that gave Hobart a 62-51 lead with just 1:20 remaining. The Statesmen closed out the victory by making 3-of-4 from the charity stripe in the final minute.
Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 19, when the Statesmen visit Clarkson. The Liberty League contest is scheduled to tip off at 4 p.m.
