#2/3 Statesmen cruise to 6-2 victory over Nazareth

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College junior Tommy Fiorentino logged three points to lead the Statesmen to a 6-2 win over Nazareth in an ECAC West game played tonight at The Cooler. Fiorentino posted a goal and two assists, helping Hobart improve to 14-1-2 overall and 6-0-1 in the ECAC West.

Hobart secured a three-game sweep of the Golden Flyers this season. Sophomore Bronson Kovacs notched two goals in the victory. First-year Mac Olson, first-year Bo Webster and senior Frank Salituro each produced a goal and an assist. Sophomore Terrence O'Neill earned two assists. Senior goalie Nick Broadwater played the opening 46:34 and made 16 saves. First-year Lino Chimienti saw his first collegiate action, coming in for the final 13:26 and making five stops.

Nazareth falls to 5-11-1 overall and is now 0-7-0 in ECAC West play. Tom Mediak led the Golden Flyers with two goals, and Alex Silvia chipped in two assists.

Just 5:48 into the first period, Olson notched his fifth goal of the season on a shorthanded tally. Olson took a pass from Salituro. He then fired on goal his shot bounced off the Nazareth goalie, Joe Fladnick's pads and deflected off a Nazareth defender before crossing into the goal. Sophomore Ryan Michel also earned an assist on the play.

The Golden Flyers came close to scoring with just over 11 minutes left in the first period. Scott Dawson broke through the Hobart defense for a one-on-one with Broadwater, who laid out to reject the shot.

Hobart took a 2-0 lead at the 14:27 mark in the first, this time taking advantage of a power play. Webster slid a shot underneath the Nazareth goalie's pads from the left corner. Olson earned the assist.

The Golden Flyers got on the scoreboard 2:29 into the second. Mediak scored his first goal of the season after passes from Silvia and Jon-Paul Durso.

The Statesmen responded with three straight goals to stake a 5-1 lead going into the second break. At 13:36, sophomore Brad McBride broke through after a pass from classmate Tommaso Traversa.  McBride dished to Fiorentino who logged his sixth goal of the season. Two minutes later, Salituro took advantage of a power play to make it 4-1. After a pass from Webster, Salituro took a shot that bounced off Gladnick's pads. The rebound bounced around through a crowd in front before Salituro was able to collect it and fire a second shot into the back of the net. He leads Hobart with 11 goals this season. With 56 seconds remaining in the second, Kovacs gave the Statesmen a four-goal cushion with another power-play goal. Fiorentino and O'Neill earned the assists.

At 12:30 in the third period with Hobart again on the power play, Kovacs recorded his second goal of the night and fifth of the season to make it 6-1. Fiorentino and O'Neill tallied the assists. With 11 seconds left in the game, Mediak registered his second goal of the night after passes from Andler and Silvia.

Gladnick played 59:57 in goal for Nazareth and finished with 37 saves. The Statesmen were 4-for-7 on the power play, and the Golden Flyers were 1-for-6.

The Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 19, when they take on No. 6/8 Utica in another ECAC West game at 7 p.m. in The Cooler.
