Hayter’s double-double keys William Smith’s win over Bard

Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College basketball team picked up its third consecutive win with a 64-49 Liberty League triumph over Bard College in Bristol Gym this evening. Sophomore forward Chloe Hayter produced her fourth career double-double on a game-high 19 points and a team-high 11 rebounds to pace the Herons.
 
William Smith improved to 11-6 overall, 5-3 in the league. The Herons shot 41.1 percent from the floor, including seven 3-pointers, and enjoyed a 41-36 rebounding advantage. The Raptors fell to 7-11 overall, 1-8 in the conference. Bard was limited to 27.9 percent shooting, including a 6-for-27 showing in the first half.
 
Hayter was 6-of-11 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. She was joined in double digits by junior guard Erin O'Brien, who recorded 14 points and five assists. Junior guard Sasha Borenstein tossed in 10 points off the bench. Junior guard Jacqueline Murphy made a run at a double-double, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds as well as four assists. Senior guard Sydni Salvatore contributed eight points and a game-high six assists.
 
Despite first half foul trouble, first-year forward Tytravia Riley led the Raptors with 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. First-year guard Bianka Bell also scored 16 points, grabbed seven boards and registered a team-high five assists.
 
At the 14:04 mark of the first half, the Raptors took 10-8 lead on a jumper by senior forward Imani Jones. Bard didn't make another field goal until more than 11 minutes had run off the game clock. William Smith went on a 15-2 run (the Raptors made a pair of free throws with 4:55 left in the half) that stretched the Herons lead to 23-12. O'Brien's 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining, sent the Herons into halftime with a 26-15 lead.
 
With treys by O'Brien and Salvatore bookending a 12-3 surge to start the second half, William Smith expanded its lead to 20. Bard hung around and managed to whittle its deficit down to just nine with 5:03 left, but Borenstein made consecutive 3s kick-starting a 10-0 run that put the game out of reach.
 
The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 26, when they host Vassar (13-3, 5-2) at 2 p.m. The Raptors will play at the same time at RIT (4-11, 1-6). The Brewers defeated the Tigers 71-50 tonight.
