Box Score Six different Statesmen scored as the No. 5 Hobart College hockey team defeated Elmira 6-3 in an ECAC West game played tonight in Pine Valley, N.Y. Sophomore
Tommaso Traversa led Hobart with a goal and two assists in the win.
Sophomores
Ryan Michel and
Tommy Fiorentino each added a goal and an assist. First-year
Lino Chimienti played all 60 minutes in his first collegiate start and finished with 28 saves. After sweeping the weekend with Elmira, the Statesmen are now 16-2-2 overall and 8-1-1 in the ECAC West.
The Statesmen got on the scoreboard first with a goal with 8:49 left in the first. After the Soaring Eagles were called for a five minute major penalty, sophomore
Brad McBride pushed in a shot from right in front after passes from Michel and first-year
Bo Webster. It was McBride's seventh goal this season.
Elmira (8-12-0, 3-7-0) answered a little over two minutes later, capitalizing on a power play of their own. Eric David found the back of the net at 13:26 after an assist from Jesper Strale.
The Statesmen came out strong in the second period, scoring three goals to extend their lead to 4-1. Just 29 seconds into the second period. Michel carried the puck around the goal and out in front, where he lifted a shot over Darren MacDonald's pads to give Hobart a 2-1 lead with his third tally of the season. Traversa placed a shot into the top right corner to make it 3-1 at 5:48 in the second. It was his sixth goal of the year. Senior

Dave Stevens stretched Hobart's lead to three with his third goal this year. He scored from right in front after passes from Traversa and sophomore
Brett Riley.
The Soaring Eagles came out scoring in the third with two quick goals to get within one. Mary Morikawa made is 4-2 at 6:12 off assists from Steve Carlette and Jordan Robertso. Taylor Love blasted a shot from the blue line to make it 4-3 at 8:38 in the third. Rob Simpson earned the assist.
Fiorentino put the Statesmen back on top by two at 11:56. He took a pass from Traversa and carried the puck into the zone, scoring on a backhanded shot from right in front. The Soaring Eagles pulled their goal with just over a minute remaining for the extra skater, but could not take advantage. With 2.2 seconds on the clock, first-year
Mac Olson tallied his second empty net goal in as many days to cap the Hobart victory. Senior
Brad Richard tallied the assist.
MacDonald played 28:12 and finished with 18 saves. Ryan deMelo came in for the final 30:36 and stopped 14 shots. The Statesmen finished with a 38-31 advantage in shots. Hobart went 1-for-3 on the power-play and Elmira finished 1-for-6.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 1, when they travel to play Utica in another ECAC West game at 7 p.m.
