Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team defeated visiting Elmira College 3-1 in a non-league game played under the lights on Boswell Field tonight. Three different Statesmen scored in the win.
Hobart improves to 8-7-1 overall, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 6-8-0 this season.
First-year
Joe Busuttil put the Statesmen on the scoreboard in the 33rd minute. He chipped in a shot from right in front of the goal. It was his third tally this season. Just under six minutes later, sophomore
Tyler Niles notched his first collegiate goal to make it 2-0. Sophomore
Marco Ronning sent a pass into the box. Niles settled the ball and placed his shot into the back of the net.
Senior
Ian McGarty gave the Statesmen a three goal advantage in the 74th minute. He received a pass from first-year
JP White and blasted a shot on goal. Elmira goalie Nick Lapinski jumped in the air in an attempt to make the save, but he wasn't able to stop it as it carried into the back of the goal. It was McGarty's first goal this year.
Ryan Limero scored the lone goal for the Soaring Eagles. He broke through the Hobart back line for a one-on-one with Hobart keeper, sophomore
Tyler Serafine, and fired his shot into the left side of the goal.
Lapinski finished with six saves for Elmira, and Serafine made two saves for Hobart. The Statesmen held a 13-10 advantage in shots. Each team earned three corner kicks.
Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26, when they travel to Clarkson for a Liberty League match at 2 p.m.
