Statesmen get No. 2 seed, rematch in Wendy's College Classic

The Hobart College basketball team will begin the 48th annual Wendy's College Classic as the tournament's No. 2 seed. The Statesmen will face No. 7 University of Rochester at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at Nazareth College.

Hobart is off to a 3-0 start, including an 83-73 win over the Yellowjackets in Geneva on Nov. 19. Junior guard Connor Rehbaum is averaging a team-high 22.0 ppg, knocking down 59 percent of his 3-point shots. Senior forward Richie Bonney contributes a double-double on 20.0 ppg and 11.0 rpg. Junior guard Trey Blanding adds 15.3 ppg and 5.3 apg. Senior guard Joe Gibbons is the fourth Statesman averaging double digits in the scoring column at 11.0 ppg.

Rochester is 3-3 after winning the UR/Holiday Inn Airport Tournament title. Tyler Sankes leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 16.8 ppg and 7.8 rpg. Nate Vernon contributes 16.2 ppg and Tyler Seidman averages 11.0 ppg.

Not only will this be a rematch of Hobart's season-opening game, but also a rematch of last season's Wendy's College Classic Championship game. The Yellowjackets won that showdown 73-64.

Brockport is the No. 1 seed in this year's Classic. Nazareth, Geneseo, St. John Fisher, and Roberts Wesleyan are the No. 3 through No. 6 seeds, respectively.  RIT is the No. 8 seed.

The tournament's second round games will be played at Roberts Wesleyan and RIT on Friday, Dec. 6 with the third round games hosted by Roberts Wesleyan and St. John Fisher on Saturday, Dec. 7.
