#3 Herons to take on Capital in national semifinals

The No. 3 William Smith College soccer team will take on Capital University in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship. The Herons and the Crusaders will kick off at noon (11 a.m. CST), on Friday, Dec. 6 at Toyota Field in San Antonio.

William Smith (21-1-0) enters the contest riding a 21-match winning streak. The Liberty League champions lead Division III with a .864 shutout percentage. The Herons are second in the nation in win percentage (.955) and goals against average (0.27) and fourth in save percentage (.912). The William Smith tied a program record for shutouts in a season with 19 this year and the Herons are currently riding a 14-match shutout streak.

Senior goalie Chelsea Dunay ranks second in Division III with a 0.28 goals against average and fourth with a .910 save percentage. She's 21-1-1 in goal this year and has set program records for wins in a season and shutouts in a season (16).  Junior Madeline Buckley leads the offense with 24 points on a team-high nine goals and six assists, and first-year Kara Shue has added 21 points on a team-high nine assists and six goals.

Capital (19-4-2) is unbeaten in its last 10 matches, winning nine straight before tying top-ranked Washington (Mo.) in its sectional championship match and topping the Bears 3-2 on penalty kicks to advance to the national semifinals. The Ohio Athletic Conference champions are led in scoring by Hilary Ells who has posted a team-high 28 points on 14 goals. Becca Cartmill has recorded a team-high 10 assists and added four goals for 18 points. Maggie Donnellan has played the majority of minutes in goal and is sporting a 0.77 goals against average and a .883 save percentage.

This will be the first meeting between the two soccer programs. Fans can follow the action online with Live Stats and Live Video. The match will also be broadcast live by WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).

In the other semifinal, No. 13 Middlebury (17-1-3) will take on No. 2 Trinity (Texas) (24-0-2) at 2:30 p.m. (1:30 CST). The championship match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. (1:30 CST) on Saturday, Dec. 7.
