Box Score The Hobart College ice hockey team scored four first period goals and held off Manhattanville for a 4-3 victory in an ECAC West game played this afternoon in Terry Connors Rink in Stamford, Conn. Sophomore Brad McBride scored two goals, junior Tommy Fiorentino chipped in two assists and sophomore Brendan Fitzgerald added a goal and an assist.

Hobart, who is ranked No. 4 by D3hockey.com and No. 5 by USCHO.com, improved to 18-3-2 overall and 10-2-1 in the ECAC West. Only two teams in the history of Hobart hockey have produced more wins in a season than the current team.

The Valiants, who are ranked No. 13 by USCHO.com this week, fall to 12-8-2 overall and 5-5-2 in the conference. Scott Hudson led Manhattanville with a goal and an assist.

Fitzgerald started the scoring for the Statesmen at 6:56 in the first, logging his first goal of the season after a pass from Fiorentino. Just 3:34 later senior Ryan Corcoran notched his third goal of the year off assists from Fiorentino and Fitzgerald to make it 2-0. With 3:16 left in the opening period, McBride stretched the Statesmen lead to three after a pass from senior Frank Salituro and sophomore Terrence O'Neill. McBride struck again, this time on a power play with 1:30 remaining, to make it 4-0 going into the first break. O'Neill and sophomore Tommaso Traversa were credited with the assists. McBride has posted nine goals in his first season as a Statesman.

Manhattanville scored twice in the second period to cut the Hobart lead to two. At 8:54 in the second period, Hudson broke through with the Valiants first goal. Rich Meyer and Matt Coleman earned the assists. With 2:55 left in the middle period, Jason Bowles found the back of the net to make it 4-2 after a pass from Brendan Turner.

The Valiants got within one on a power-play goal by Brett Skalaski at 7:35 into the third. Adam Young and Hudson set up the play. That was as close as Manhattanville would get, as the Valiants pulled their goalie for the extra attacker for the final 44 seconds, but were unable to score.

Senior goalie Nick Broadwater finished with 28 saves in all 60 minutes in goal for the Statesmen. He improved to 14-3-2 this season. Brian Fleming played the first period for the Valiants and stopped eight shots. Alex Scola came in at the start of the second period. He played 39:16 and finished with 21 saves.

The Statesmen held a 33-31 edge in shots. Hobart went 1-for-3 on the power play, while Manhattanville finished 1-for-4.

The Statesmen will be back in action tomorrow, Feb. 9, when they travel to take on Neumann in another ECAC West game at 7 p.m.
