GENEVA, N.Y.—Junior attackman Alex Love became the ninth Statesman to record 100 career points in Division I, but Fairfield University spoiled the celebration, outlasting Hobart College 13-10 in an ECAC Lacrosse League game on Boswell Field. Love recorded four goals to hit the century mark on the nose.

With the Statesmen trailing 5-2 in the second quarter, Love got his first goal of the game at the 10:20 mark to make it a two-goal game. Two minutes later, junior attackman Cam Stone scored. The Stags got one back at the 6:31 mark, but Love scored twice in the final 3:21 to tie the game and raise his career total to 82 goals and 99 points.

Love didn't make the home fans wait long for his milestone point. Just 2:06 into the third quarter, he fired home his team-leading 30th goal of the season, just eight off of the Hobart Division I season record he set last season, to put the Statesmen up 7-6. Love's 83 career goals are tied for fifth among DI Statesmen (with Nathan Roost '98).
 
Fairfield (6-3, 2-0) reclaimed the lead for good on back-to-back goals by first-year midfielder TJ Neubauer and sophomore attackman Tristan Sperry. Neubauer scored a team-high four goals while Sperry added three goals.
 
Hobart (4-4, 1-1) forged ties at 8-8 and 9-9 on goals by senior midfielder Derek Akner and sophomore midfielder Taylor Vanderbeek, the latter coming with 27 seconds left in the third quarter. The Stags won the ensuing faceoff and sophomore midfielder Colin McLinden scored with 0.1 seconds left in the half to send the visitors into the final frame with a 10-9 lead.
 
Neubauer gave Fairfield a two-goal lead early in the fourth quarter. Thirty seconds later, senior midfielder Jake Silberlicht scored for the Statesmen to close the gap to 11-10. Junior attackman Jordan Greenfield added an insurance goal at the 9:25 mark and Sperry wrapped up the scoring with 3:37 remaining.
 
The Stags enjoyed a 33-28 advantage in shots and the Statesmen held a slim 35-34 edge in ground balls. Faceoffs (12-12) and turnovers (15-15) were even. Fairfield's early success was helped by its extra-man unit. The Stags were 2-of-5 with the extra man in the first half (2-for-6 for the day). Hobart 0-for-3 on extra-man opportunities, all in the third quarter.

Stone finished with two goals and two assists. Love and junior long-stick midfielder Ethan O'Connor shared team-high honors with five ground balls. Senior defenseman Sean Regan and junior long-stick midfielder Peter Bolte caused two turnovers apiece.

Fairfield faceoff man Michael Roe picked up a game-high seven ground balls.
 
The Statesmen will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, when they host Denver. The Stags will return home to host Bellarmine at noon next Saturday.
