Hobart soccer edged by Rowan in final minutes

Box Score The Hobart College soccer team dropped its match to Rowan 1-0 this afternoon in the Xara Soccer Classic hosted by Keene State in Keene, N.H. The Owls scored on a penalty kick with 1:31 left in regulation to secure the win.

It was the season-opener for both Hobart and Rowan. The Statesmen held an 18-8 advantage in total shots. Rowan held a 6-2 lead in corners. Junior Mike Lucas played all 90 minutes in goal for Hobart and finished with three saves. Ryan Gill played all 90 minutes in goal for the Owls and stopped nine shots.

In the 89th minute, the Statesmen were called for a foul in the box. Rowan was awarded a penalty kick, which Dylan Smith sent home for what proved to be the game winner.

Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Sept. 1, when it plays host Keene State at 2 p.m.
