Krista Longo scored 4:44 into the second overtime period to secure a 2-1 victory for the No. 11 Herons over host Union in a Liberty League match played in Schenectady, New York, this afternoon. It was William Smith's eighth straight win.

Longo led the Herons, notching the game winner and adding an assist. William Smith improves to 9-2-0 overall and 4-0-0 in conference play, while the Dutchwomen fall to 8-3-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the Liberty League.

Madeline Buckley put the Herons on the scoreboard in the 48th minute on a shot from about 10 yards out after a pass from Longo. Buckley leads William Smith with 20 points and nine goals this season.

Sydney Keane was able to tie the game up at 1-1 for Union in the 63rd minute. Her shot from just outside of the box sailed into the upper left corner of the goal, eventually sending the game into overtime. Katie Monhan set up the game-tying goal. The Dutchwomen halted the Herons' shutout streak at 635:05.

William Smith posted a 5-0 shot advantage in the first overtime period and also outshot the Dutchwmen 3-1 in the second overtime. In the 105th minute that Longo secured the victory for the Herons. Her bending shot came from just inside the box and after a pass from sophomore
Kara Shue. It was Longo's fourth goal, and Shue leads William Smith with eight assists.

The Herons finished with a 29-6 advantage in total shots and a 12-2 lead in corners. First-year goalie
Nicole McGlinchy played all 104:44 in goal for William Smith and finished with three saves. Allison Brustowicz played the entire match in goal for Union and stopped nine shots.

The Herons will be back in action Friday, Oct. 17, when they travel to take on Skidmore in another Liberty League match at 4 p.m.
