The 32-team NCAA Division III Football Championship bracket was revealed tonight. The Liberty League Champion Hobart College Statesmen will host the Empire 8 Champion Ithaca College Bombers in a first round game on Saturday, Nov. 22.
Â
Kickoff at Boswell Field at the Caird Center for Sports and Recreation is scheduled for noon. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $4 for students with valid ID.
Â
Hobart (10-0) is making its fourth consecutive NCAA playoff appearance following its third consecutive undefeated regular season. The Statesmen are one of only eight teams to make the playoff field in each of the past four years. The others are Franklin, Johns Hopkins, Linfield, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Mount Union, St. Scholastica, and Wesley. Overall, Hobart has played in the NCAA Championship eight times, posting a 7-8 record.
Â
The Statesmen are led by Head Coach
Mike Cragg. Now in his 20th season, he is 132-53 (.714) at Hobart. Cragg is 2-7 against the Bombers.
Â
Ithaca (7-3) earned its 19th NCAA playoff bid. The Bombers are 28-15 in their previous 18 playoff runs, including national championships in 1979, 1988, and 1991.
Â
The Bombers are led by Mike Welch, who is in his 21st season at the helm. He's 160-66 (.708) at Ithaca, including an 8-2 mark against the Statesmen.
Â
The Statesmen and Bombers have one common opponent this season, Union. Ithaca topped the Dutchmen 21-16 to open the season, while Hobart bested its Liberty League rival on Nov. 1, 30-6.
Â
Formerly foes in the ICAC, Saturday's showdown will be the 28th meeting between the two schools since they first squared off in 1961. Ithaca holds a 24-3 series lead over Hobart. However, the Statesmen and Bombers have split their last four games, with the home team prevailing each time.
Â
The winner of Saturday's game will face the winner of Rowan at Johns Hopkins.
