Statesmen use three third period goals to take down Elmira 4-2

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College hockey team scored three goals in the third period to earn a 4-2 ECAC West win over Elmira tonight in The Cooler.The Statesmen improve to 5-3-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the ECAC West, while the Soaring Eagles are now 2-2-1 overall and in conference play.

Hobart rebounded form a 4-2 loss to Elmira last night in The Cooler.Senior Brad McBride led Hobart with two goals. Junior Ben Gamache chipped in a goal and an assist. Senior Ryan Michel and junior Bo Webster added two assists each. Junior goalie Lino Chimienti played all 60 minutes in between the pipes and turned aside a season-high 41 shots.
 
The Soaring Eagles got on the scoreboard first 5:18 into the game. Tommy Sumi converted on a power play after passes from Greg Whittle and Jarryd ten Vaanholt. The Statesmen evened the score in the second period, when Gamache capitalized on a Hobart power play. Webster and Michel set up the play.
 
At 3:38 into the third period with the Statesmen on the power play, senior Terrence O'Neill pushed a pass to McBride from behind the goal. McBride beat Elmira goalie Ryan deMelo to give Hobart a 2-1 advantage. Gamache also earned an assist on the play. With 3:40 left in the third, Michael Collins tied things up again for the Soaring Eagles. Eric David was credited with an assist. With just 2:36 remaining in regulation, junior Brad Robbins scored his first goal as a Statesman on a shot from the left side, just inside the blue line to take back the lead for Hobart. Sophomores Tyler Hanzlik and Mitch Beyer registered the assists. Elmira pulled deMelo with 54 seconds left, but were unable to take advantage of the extra attacker. Instead, McBride chipped in an empty net goal after passes from Webster and Michel for the final.
 
deMelo played 59:06 in goal for Elmira and made 35 saves. The Soaring Eagles went 1-for-7 on the power play, while the Statesmen finished 2-for-6. Elmira finished with a 43-39 edge in total shots.
 
Hobart will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 5, when it hosts Wesleyan for a non-league game at The Cooler at 7:30 p.m.
