SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The William Smith College field hockey team fell to 12th-ranked Thoroughbreds 3-0 in the Liberty League Championship game this afternoon. 
 
After a scoreless first half, Skidmore (17-3) broke through for three second half-goals to claim their second straight Liberty League title. Dani DeGregory scored the games first goal in the 45th minute when she collected a pass from Caroline Saros and buried the ball in the back of the net. Just past the 53 minute mark, DeGregory sent a pass to Sam Skott who was able to beat William Smith's goalie to put Skidmore up 2-0.  Krista Lamoreaux added an insurance goal in the 64th minute to make it 3-0.
 
The Herons (11-8) best scoring opportunity in the game came shortly after DeGregory's goal. 
Maura Moran was awarded a penalty corner and inserted to 
Hannah Wood. Wood fired two quick shots at the net: one was saved, the other went wide of the net.
 
Senior 
Catherine Hare started in goal for William Smith and made 12 saves on the afternoon. Amy Beck started in net for Skidmore and made two saves in the shutout.
 
The Thoroughbreds outshot the Herons 22-4 and gained 10 corners to William Smith's two. 
 
With the win, Skidmore earns the Liberty League's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.Â
