Statesmen tripped up at Neumann

Box Score The Hobart College hockey team fell 4-2 to Neumann College tonight in an ECAC West game played in Aston, Pa. The Statesmen fall to 11-7-4 overall and 5-4-3 in the conference, while the Knights improve to 8-10-4 overall and 3-7-2 in the ECAC West.

Sophomore Ben Gamache and first-year Bobby Sokol each scored for Hobart. First-year Tim Keegan played 59:12 in goal and made 26 saves. He is now 1-2-1 in goal this year.

Jory Mullin led the Knights with two goals and Shayne Morrissey chipped in two assists. Ben Curley played all 60 minutes in goal and finished with 37 saves for Neumann.

After a scoreless first period, Nick Perrucio put the Knights on the scoreboard first just 1:57 into the second. Matt Zendejas and D'Lane Sather were credited with the assists. With 3:42 left in the second, Gamache capitalized on a Statesmen power play to tie the game up at 1-1. Juniors Bronson Kovacs and Terrence O'Neill set up the play. Just 16 seconds later, Mullin scored his first goal of the night to take back the lead for Neumann. Morrissey and Matt Mazzarolo registered the assists.

Mullin struck again with 1:17 left in the third. His second goal came off passes from Morrissey and Casey Rogers. With 1:02 left in regulation, Hobart pulled its goalie for the extra skater, but 17 seconds later, Ryan Luiten scored an empty net, shorthanded goal to make it 4-1.  With four seconds left in the third, Sokol scored his third goal of the season on a Hobart power play for the final. Junior Ryan Michel earned the assist.

The Statesmen finished with a 39-30 advantage in shots. Hobart went 2-for-6 on the power play and killed off all four of Neumann's power-play attempts.

The Statesmen and the Knights face off again tomorrow, Feb. 15 in another ECAC West contest at 7 p.m.
