Box Score The No. 1 William Smith College soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 victory over the host Bullets in the 2014 Gettysburg Cup tonight in Gettysburg, Pa.
The teams battled through the first half still tied at 0-0 at the break. In the 52nd minute, sophomore
Lauren Randaccio scored on a header to give the Herons a 1-0 advantage off an assist from senior
Brenna Kincaid. It was just the second goal of Randaccio's college career and proved to be all William Smith would need.
Junior
Jackie Doyle played all 90 minutes in goal and stopped the lone shot she faced. It was Doyle's first start and shutout as member of the Heron varsity soccer team. Eliza Gray played the whole game in goal for the Bullets and made two saves.
William Smith finished with a 7-5 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corners. Looking back to 2013, the Herons have notched 17 consecutive shutouts and 24 straight wins.
William Smith will take on Carnegie Mellon in their second game of the Gettysburg Cup tomorrow, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. The Tartans defeated Gustavus Adolphus 8-0 tonight in the opening game of the tournament.
