#1 Herons edged 2-1 by Carnegie Mellon

Box Score The top-ranked William Smith College soccer team was edged 2-1 by Carnegie Mellon in the Herons' second game of the 2014 Gettysburg Cup played on the Bullets' Clark Field in Gettysburg, Pa.
 
William Smith is now 1-1, while the Tartans improve to 2-0.
 
Carnegie Mellon struck first 15:43 in. Savina Reid scored on a rebound off an initial shot by Tori Iatarola.  In the 62nd minute, senior Madeline Buckley answered for the Herons, knotting the game at one. Buckley found the back of the net on a header off a cross from first-year Theresa Lohr. Carnegie Mellon took back the lead just 4:11 later when Reid capitalized on another rebound. This time her goal came off an assist from Alex Moy.
 
Junior Jackie Doyle played all 90 minutes in goal for the Herons and made three saves. Katie Liston played the whole match in goal for the Tartans. Carnegie Mellon held a 10-7 edge in shots. The Herons finished with a slight 3-2 advantage in corners with their last one coming in the 89th minute, but the following shot in the final seconds  sailed wide right.
 
William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 6, when it travels to take on No. 9 Messiah in another non-conference game at 1 p.m.
