#8 Falcons edge #24 Herons 1-0 in final minutes of double overtime

Box Score The No. 8 Messiah College women's soccer team scored with 1:44 left in the second overtime period to edge No. 24 William Smith 1-0 this afternoon in Grantham, Pennsylvania. The Herons fall to 1-2-0 overall, while the Falcons improve to 3-0-0.
                             
Messiah's Marisa Weaver broke through for the Falcons scoring on a header in the 109th minute off a corner kick.
 
William Smith controlled play for the majority of the second half, but Messiah keeper Audra Larson stepped up to make four of her five saves in that stanza. Larson's fifth save came on a shot by Heron sophomore Brie Ruane in the 106th minute.
 
The Falcons held a 12-7 advantage in shots, including a 3-2 edge in overtime. Messiah also finished with a 4-3 lead in corners. William Smith first-year Nicole McGlinchy saw her first action in goal. She made five saves in all 108:16.
 
The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 13, when they travel to take on Cortland in the first game of the 2014 Upstate Collegiate Cup which will be hosted by the Red Dragons.
