GENEVA, N.Y. - The William Smith College ice hockey team fell in an ECAC West Conference contest to No. 1 Plattsburgh 10-0 at the Cooler this afternoon. Cardinal forward Bridget Balisy recorded a hat trick to lead all skaters with three points.

Plattsburgh (11-0-2, 8-0-0) scored the game's first goal at 4:11 of the first period. Alyssa Parke fired a shot from the point that beat Heron goalie
Megan Messuri glove side. Olivia Fox and Morgan MacInnis registered assists as the Cardinals cycled the puck through the attacking zone to find Parke at the point. Plattsburgh doubled its lead just past the half-way point of the first period. Fox notched a goal of her own. Elizabeth Viola rifled a shot from the point that Fox deflected into cage. Baisly scored her first goal of the game at 14:05 of the first period. She broke into the offensive zone with only Messuri to beat and picked the upper corner of the net. Andrea Ziesmann scored with 26 seconds left in the first period to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead heading into the locker room. Ziesmann's power-play goal came on a shot from the left point that went into the top right corner of the goal.

Favretto pocketed her second point of the night when she collected a puck right in front of the net and sent it into the open net. Melissa Sheeran was credited with the assist on the goal. Balisy potted the game's next two goals to complete the hat trick. At 9:37 of the second period, she collected a bouncing puck and picked the upper right corner to give the Cardinals a 6-0 lead. With just under two minutes left in the period, she lifted a shot off the ice that picked the upper left corner of the net. Balisy's second and third goal came with Plattsburgh on the power play.

William Smith's (2-11-1, 1-7-1) best scoring opportunity of the first 40 minutes came in the final two minutes of the second period. After Balisy's third goal, the Herons pressured Plattsburgh goalie Camille Leonard.

Catherine Linehan each had point blank shots robbed by Leonard.

Sheeran notched her second point of the night 28 seconds into the third period. Erin Brandt fired a shot that Heron goalie
Maggie Salmon saved. Sheeran picked up the rebound and tucked the puck over the goal line. MacInnis' second point of the game came off of a deflection in front. Julia Duquette fire a shot from the slot that MacInnis got her stick on and tipped over Salmon's right shoulder. Katelyn Turk closed out the scoring for Plattsburgh. She snuck behind Salmon and one-timed a crossing pass from Ziesmann into the open goal.

William Smith had two crucial power play opportunities late in the game but came up empty. At 9:02 of the final frame, William Smith drew a power play opportunity and immediately called a timeout.
Krista Federow won the ensuing face-off and broke into the offensive zone. Federow fired a shot that Leonard turned aside. After the power play expired, Begley had a blocked shot deflect out to
Rachel McKay at the point. McKay sent a towering slap shot toward Leonard who collected the shot with an outstretched glove. The Herons found themselves on a 5-3 power play for 48 seconds but came away empty. Begley had William Smith's lone shot on the two player advantage.

Messuri started in goal for William Smith and made 21 saves in 14:05 action. Salmon came on in relief for the Herons and stopped 37 shots in the final 45:55 of the game. Leonard stopped all 11 shots she faced in the shutout effort.

Plattsburgh took advantage of its six power play opportunities converting on four of them. William Smith did not score on its three opportunities.
