The William Smith College ice hockey team will host Division I Sacred Heart at The Cooler this weekend. Friday's contest is the first of a three-game homestand for the Herons. William Smith will play six of its final eight games on home ice. The Herons and Pioneers are scheduled to faceoff at 4 p.m. on Friday and 1:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Following Saturday's game, the team will host a Skate with the Herons session where members of the community and fans in attendance at the game will be able to meet and skate with the team. The team coaches will also be available for autographs postgame. There will be a $3 admission fee for Skate with the Herons, which will take place during open skate at The Cooler. Open skate lasts from 3:45-5:45, the Herons will be on the ice for the first hour.

William Smith (2-14-1), is led offensively by first-year forward
Krista Federow. Federow leads the team in goals (7), assists (5), and points (12).
Catherine Linehan and
Morgan Bayreuther each have three goals, second on the team, while
Dori Craig and
Rebecca Begley and
Dori Craig each have four assists. All 14 skaters have recorded at least one point.
Megan Messuri has started 10 games in goal for the Herons, posting a .924 save percentage and a 3.47 goals against average. Messuri has been the goalie of record in both of William Smith's victories this year.
Maggie Salmon has seen action in seven games in goal, starting six. She has made 252 saves and owns a .894 save percentage between the pipes.

Sacred Heart (5-13-1) enters this weekend's games on an eight-game winless streak. The Pioneers dropped a pair of games to Stevenson last weekend. Sacred Heart is led offensively by Casey Stathopoulos who has a team-high 13 assists and 20 points. Alanna Woodford is second on the team with 19 points this season and leads the team with 11 goals. Amanda Fontaine has seen a majority of the action in net for the Pioneers, stopping 485 shots and posting a .890 save percentage and a 4.30 goals against average.

This weekend will also serve as an alumnae weekend for the William Smith Club ice hockey team. The players on the club hockey team were an important part of the elevation from club to varsity status. Former members of the club hockey team will be in attendance at this weekend's games. The club team will play an alumnae game on Sunday morning.
