POTSDAM, N.Y.—The William Smith College basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Clarkson University squad this afternoon, falling 83-47 to the Golden Knights in Alumni Gymnasium. Clarkson shot 47 percent from the floor, including 53 percent from 3-point range to pick up its fifth win in six games.

Courtney Chase led the Herons with 12 points, including a 2-of-3 effort from 3-point range. Senior
Chloe Hayter added nine points and six rebounds. First-year
Kendra Quinn-Moultrie chipped in a season-high seven points. Sophomore
Melanie Patterson had five points, a team-high seven rebounds, and a game-high two blocked shots.
Cara Manfredi led four Golden Knights in double figures with 27 points, including five 3-pointers. Devin Sorrell had 21 points, Stephanie Grobe 16, and Alyssia Marsal 11. Ashley Loggins helped CU to a 43-42 edge on the glass with a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Golden Knights (14-5, 7-3) never trailed, opening the game on a 15-2 run. Manfredi (9) and Grobe (6) did all the scoring for CU in the opening surge. Patterson connected on a 3-pointer and Hayter followed with a layup to get the Herons within eight, but Manfredi scored the game's next 5 points to push Clarkson's lead back into double digits for good. Manfredi kick-started a 13-5 run that stretched the home team's advantage to 16, 28-12. Chase did all of the Heron scoring during the five minute span.
William Smith trailed 47-27 at halftime and got no closer than 18 down in the second half.
Clarkson finished the game 8-of-15 from 3-point range, the best 3-point shooting percentage by a Heron opponent this season. William Smith shot 29 percent from the floor and 27 percent from deep.
The Herons (3-14, 2-7) will return home to face Union in another Liberty League contest on Tuesday, Feb. 3. Tipoff in Bristol Gym is scheduled for 6 p.m.
