Herons blank Alfred State 6-0

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College first-year Kristina Camaj registered two goals as the Heron soccer team downed Alfred State 6-0 in the first ever meeting between the teams, a non-league match played under the lights on Boswell Field tonight.
 
William Smith improves to 8-1-1 overall with its seventh straight win and shutout. The Herons have notched a total of eight shutouts this season. It's also the second straight game the William Smith defense kept its opponent from taking a shot on goal.
 
First-year Sarah Olick-Sutphen earned two assists in the win. First-year Veronica Romines started in goal and played 65:51. Classmate Kaileen Murray played the final 24:09. William Smith controlled the game posting a 30-0 advantage in shots and a 8-0 lead in corners. Alfred State keeper Allison Danielak played all 90 minutes and finished with 15 saves.
 
Camaj put William Smith on the board 6:06 into the game. She beat a defender and scored from right in front. Just 5:11 later she struck again, this time off an assist from sophomore Cailin MacLean. MacLean's cross from the right side came to Camaj out in front. She fired her shot into the back of the net for her third goal of the season. In the 44th minute, junior Lauren Randaccio made it 3-0. She beat the Pioneers' keeper and tapped her shot into the open net. It was her fourth goal this year.
 
In the 52nd minute, junior Chloe Sudduth one-timed a long crossing pass from deep in the corner from Olick-Sutphen to make it 4-0. It was Sudduth's first goal this year. First-year Phoebe Wade, who played up from the Herons' junior varsity team, notched her first varsity goal in the 75th minute. It came also came off a feed from Olick-Sutphen. The final goal of the game came off an Alfred State defender in the 76th minute.
 
The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 10, when they travel to take on St. Lawrence in a Liberty League match at 3 p.m.
