2 Statesmen honored by Liberty League, Hobart to host tournament semifinal

Two members of the Hobart College soccer team were recognized by the Liberty League today. First-year forward Derrick Acheampong was named the Offensive Performer of the Week and senior defender Tyler Niles earned a spot on the conference's weekly honor roll.

In addition, the Statesmen, the Liberty League tournament's No. 2 seed, will host No. 3 seed Skidmore, in a tournament semifinal tomorrow, Nov. 3, on Cozzens Field at 1:30 p.m.

Acheampong led the Statesmen with eight points on four goals in a 2-0-0 week. He notched two goals, including the game winner in a 5-1 victory over Fredonia on Tuesday. Acheampong added two more goals in a 3-1 win over RIT on Saturday. He leads Hobart with 17 points and eight goals this season. Acheampong's four game-winning goals lead the Liberty League.

Niles scored the game-winning goal against the Tigers. He also played a key role in the Statesmen defense that limited its opponents to just one goal each last week. Niles has logged three goals, including two game winners, for six points this season. The Statesmen are tied for second in the league in goals allowed this year.

The Statesmen bring a 13-2-2 overall record into tomorrow's match. Acheampong leads the team in scoring. Junior JP White has added five goals for 10 points. Senior goalie Tyler Serafine has played the majority of minutes in goal. He's sporting a 0.58 goals against average and a .792 save percentage.

Skidmore brings a 10-5-1 record to Geneva. Augustine Okoye leads the team with 16 points on six goals and four assists. Eli Kisselbach has played the majority of minutes in goal. He's sporting a 0.48 goals against average and a .883 save percentage. The Thoroughbreds earned a 1-0 double overtime win in the regular season meeting between the two teams. Okoye scored the game winner in the 107th minute.

The other Liberty League tournament semifinal will be played at top-seeded St. Lawrence. The Saints will host No. 4 Union on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 1:30 p.m. The highest remaining seed will then host the championship match on Saturday, Nov. 7.
