Herons host Chatham in ECAC West play this weekend

The William Smith College ice hockey team will host Chatham for a pair of ECAC West games at the Cooler this weekend.

William Smith (2-4-2, 0-4-2) has recorded a point in two of its last four games and enters the weekend looking for its first conference win.  Last time out, the Herons were edged by Neumann 2-1. William Smith is led offensively by sophomore defender Rebecca Begley. Entering the weekend, Begley is averaging just over a point a game with four goals and five assists, and is second in the ECAC west in defenseman scoring. She leads the team with two power-play goals. Sophomore Krista Federow is right behind her with three goals and three assists for six points. Federow is currently on a four-game point streak, while Begley has points in each of the Herons last three games. The duo has a point in six of William Smith's eight games this year. Sophomore Maggie Salmon has played a majority of the minutes in goal, posting a 2.72 goals against average and a .926 save percentage.

Chatham (2-4-0, 0-4-0) enters the weekend on a two-game winning streak. The Cougars are also looking for their first conference win. Chatham traveled to Becker over Thanksgiving weekend and came away with a pair of non-conference victories. The Cougars are led offensively by Kaitlyn Perrins, who has one goal and two assists for three points. Jenny Jones has a team-high two goals. Between the pipes, Kassandra Petersen has seen a majority of the action lately. She has stopped 73 shots for a 1.65 goals against average and a .932 save percentage.

Saturday's contest between the Herons and Chatham is scheduled to begin at 7:30. Faceoff for Sunday's game is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Fans unable to make it to The Cooler this weekend can follow all the action with All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast live on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
