Chloe Hayter scored a career-high 26 points and logged her 27th career double-double, but Union College ended the Herons' season with a 64-56 Liberty League loss in the Viniar Athletic Center this afternoon. The win secured the No. 4 seed in the four-team Liberty League Tournament for the Dutchwomen.

Hayter was 8-of-18 from the floor with a pair of 3-pointers and 8-of-9 at the free throw line. With a game-high 11 rebounds, she helped the visitors to a 51-34 rebounding advantage. Sophomore
Melanie Patterson added 11 points, seven rebounds, and a team-high four assists while senior
Ali Pliszka chipped in seven points and five rebounds. William Smith shot 29 percent from the floor, 20 percent from 3-point land, and 74 percent at the free throw line.

Jenni Barra scored 16 points and Cailin Schmeer added 14 to lead Union on Senior Day. Kate Thompson had eight points in her final regular season home game. Natalie Leone had a team-high seven rebounds and Amy Fisher dished out four assists for the Dutchwomen. Union shot 37 percent from the floor, 40 percent from behind the arc, and 70 percent at the line.

Union (17-8, 11-5) had a 24-23 lead at halftime and it was back and forth through the first half of the second 20 minutes. With the game tied for the eighth time at 38-38 with 11:03 left in the second, the Dutchwomen went on a 9-2 run for a 47-40 lead with 7:54 left.

The Herons got as close as two with a pair of free throws by Hayter with 3:32 left. Barra hit a big 3-pointer 11 seconds later. Patterson hit a 3 with 2:23 left to make it a two-point game again at 56-54, but Barra hit another triple for a 59-54 advantage with 2:06 to play. After Hayter's two free throws with 1:22 left made it 59-56, Schmeer's 3 with 53 seconds left put Union up by six and the Dutchwomen made 2-of-4 free throws in the final 36 seconds for the eight-point win.

Hayter's final career stat line ranks among the very best in William Smith basketball history. She ranks fourth in career free throws made (315) and career free throw percentage (.768), fifth in career rebounds (797), seventh in career points (1,280), and eighth in career rebounding average (7.8) and career field goals made (470).

William Smith finished the season with a 4-20 overall record and a 3-13 mark in Liberty League play.
