OSWEGO, N.Y. - The William Smith College ice hockey team dropped an ECAC West game to ninth-ranked Oswego 5-1 this afternoon. For the second straight day, the Lakers erupted for four third period goals.

Despite being outshot in the first period, William Smith (2-18-1, 1-12-1) was able to keep Oswego off the scoreboard. First-year
Maggie Salmon stopped all 17 shots she faced in the game's first 20 minutes.

The Lakers (16-4-1, 12-3-1) scored the game's first goal just past the three minute mark of the second period. Alexa Aramburu collected one of her three goals on the afternoon. Brianna Rice sent a pass to Aramburu in front of the goal. Aramburu fired a shot just over Salmon's glove hand.

The Herons tied the game at one when
Krista Federow notched her team-leading 11th goal of the season. She broke into the offensive zone and backhanded a shot that trickled into the back of the net. Federow now has scored a goal in three straight games and has recorded at least a point in six of her last seven games.

Oswego broke the game open in the third period. Aramburu's scored a second power-play goal at 1:57 of the second period. Rice scored her first goal of the game at 13:47. She blasted a shot from point that picked the top corner of the goal. Four minutes later Rice added a second goal to give the Lakers a 4-1 lead. Aramburu netted her third goal of the game 20 seconds later.

Salmon got the start in net for William Smith making 42 saves. She made a series of key stops early in the third period with the Lakers on the power play. Tori Trovato started in goal for Oswego and made 18 saves.

The Lakers scored on two of their four power play opportunities while the Herons came away empty on both of their chances.

William Smith returns to the ice next weekend, Feb. 13-14, when they take on No. 1 Elmira. The Herons will play in Elmira on Friday and will return to The Cooler on Saturday.
