The William Smith College lacrosse team got within one goal early in the second half, but the Golden Eagles closed out the game with five straight goals to secure a 15-9 win. The Herons are now 2-4 this season, while Brockport improves to 4-2 overall.

Andrea Zlinsky and Nina Tassone shared a game-high with five points each for Brockport. Zlinsky produced two goals and three assists and Tassone tallied three goals and two assists. Makensie Schuber posted three goals and an assist and Hailey Boronczyk added two goals and two assists. Colleen Hathaway shared a game-high with five ground balls, and Courtney Szczesniak shared a game-high winning four draws. Remle Harr played all 60 minutes between the pipes and stopped seven shots for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first three minutes on goals by Boddery and Schuber. Moore broke through for William Smith 3:07 in off an assist from sophomore Bird. Tassone made it 3-1 with her 13th goal of the season for Brockport. Eighteen seconds later, junior

Emy Stratton. Keeley Rice put the Golden Eagles back up by two 6:18 in, and Schuber struck again 20 seconds later to make it 5-2. Bird logged a free position goal for the Herons with 21:40 left in the first half. However, Brockport strung together three goals with Zlinsky, Tassone and Boddery scoring in that order to stretch their lead back to five with 17:47 left in the first half.

Calder notched back-to-back goals 40 seconds apart to get the Herons within three at 8-5 with 16:19 left in the first. Â William Smith scored on its first five goals on its first five shots of the game. With 10:20 on the clock, Zlinsky found the back of the net for the Golden Eagles, but sophomore
Abbey Foote answered for William Smith with a free position goal with 7:20 remaining in the first to make it 9-6. With 2:55 before the break, Schuber chipped in her third goal of the game to give the Golden Eagles a 10-6 advantage. With 27 seconds on the clock, Calder logged her third goal of the afternoon for the Herons to get William Smith within three and with just 11 seconds left in the first, Moore capitalized on a free position to make it 10-8 at the break.

Twelve seconds into the second half, Calder notched her fourth goal of the game, a free position tally, to get the Herons within one. However, the Golden Eagles logged five straight goals to put the game out of reach. Boronczyk started the run with two straight goals. Boddery and Amanda Klein scored followed by Tassone's third of the game for the final score.

Brockport finished with a 38-21 advantage in shots, while draws were knotted at 13 and ground balls were even at 22 for each team. The Herons were successful on 20-of-28 clears, while Brockport was successful on all 20 of its clear attempts.

The Herons will be back in action on Friday, March 27, when they open Liberty League play against Bard at 6:30 p.m. The game will be played at Vassar in Poughkeepsie, New York.Â
