William Smith College sophomore
Alexandra Bird led the Herons with six points on five goals and an assist in a 11-10 win over St. Lawrence in a Liberty League game played in Canton, New York, this afternoon. William Smith improves to 6-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

The Saints are now 3-10 overall and 1-6 in the Liberty League. St. Lawrence rallied to get within one goal of the Herons with 1:38 remaining, but that was as close as the Saints could get.

Melissa Moore notched three goals and won three draws for William Smith. Junior
Geneva Calder logged a game-high four ground balls and three caused turnovers. First-year
Morgan Bayreuther also won three draws. Sophomore
Sarah Honan played all 60 minutes and made nine saves.

Abigail Owens led St. Lawrence with four goals and an assist. Greta Massey and Michaela Maybee each chipped in two goals. Maybee also picked up two ground balls. Julia Mitiguywon a game-high six draws. Adden Cunningham played all 60 minutes in goal and finished with four saves.

Kara Hurley put St. Lawrence on the scoreboard 1:45 into the game. Bird rattled off the next three goals for the Herons to put William Smith on top. Massey got the Saints within one with 19:43 left in the first, but first-year
Ella Calder posted her fourth goal of the season 21 seconds later to make it 4-2. Massey connected again, but this time Bird responded for the Herons with her fourth goal of the day. Owens logged back-to-back goals for St. Lawrence to tie things up at 5-5 with 10:34 left in the first. Bird and Moore scored for William Smith to close out the first half, giving the Herons a 7-5 lead at halftime.

Maybee opened the second half with a goal for St. Lawrence to get the Saints within one. However, Moore, sophomore
Allie Flaherty and junior
Emy Stratton scored for the Herons to put them back up by four. With 14:43 on the clock, Maybee logged her second of the day, but Moore answered with her third for William Smith. The Saints would not go away quietly, scoring the next three goals to get within one, but the Heron defense held off the rally to secure the win.

The Saints held a 26-21 advantage in shots and a 13-10 edge in draws. William Smith finished with a 13-10 lead in ground balls. The Herons were successful on 17-of-22 clear attempts, and the Saints went 13-for-16.

William Smith will be back in action on Friday, April 24, when they host Skidmore for another Liberty League contest at 4 p.m.
