Box Score GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team blanked St. John Fisher College 2-0 in a non-league game played on Cozzens Field this afternoon. The Statesmen improve to 3-1-0 this season.
 
The Cardinals fall to 0-4-0 this year. First-year Derrick Acheampong scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 19:20 into the match. Sophomore Zach Poretz added an insurance goal late in the second half. Senior Tyler Serafine played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save to secure his first shutout of the season.
 
In the 20th minute, Acheampong put Hobart up 1-0. He collected a pass from senior Kyle Herod and buried his shot from about six yards out. One of St. John Fisher's best scoring chances came midway through the first half when Drew Christopher crossed the ball from the right side to try to connect with Bryan Rollins out in front, but before Rollins could get to it, Serafine leapt out of the goal to intercept the pass.
 
In the 52nd minute, the Cardinals had another chance to get on the board, but Brandon Costanzo banged his shot off the left post. Poretz notched the insurance goal for Hobart in the 81st minute. Sophomore Nick Dosky blasted a shot on goal that was saved by St. John Fisher keeper Joseph Catalfamo. The rebound bounced back to Dosky who struck again, but this time his shot bounced off the post. The rebound came right to Poretz who found the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
 
Catalfamo finished with five saves in all 90 minutes in goal for the Cardinals. The Statesmen held an 18-3 lead in shots and limited St. John Fisher to just one shot on goal. Hobart also held a 4-2 lead in corners.
 
The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 12, when they host Rochester for another non-league game at 4 p.m.
