SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—A 14-3 third quarter run propelled Union College to a 59-43 victory over William Smith College in the Viniar Athletic Center this evening. The Liberty League leading Dutchwomen improved to 13-4 overall, 8-2 in the conference, while the Herons slip to 6-10, 4-4.

Union shot 35 percent from the floor with five 3-pointers and 82 percent from the free throw line. Abby Katz led three Dutchwomen in double figures with a game-high 16 points. Amy Fisher added 14 points and Erin Lyons chipped in 10.

William Smith shot 27 percent from the floor, including just 3-of-24 from behind the 3-point arc, and 67 percent at the free throw line.
Melanie Patterson led the Herons with 11 points and
Gabrielle Eure grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds to go with 8 points.
Kendra Quinn-Moultrie contributed 8 points. William Smith had a 39-38 rebounding edge.

Union led 14-12 after the first quarter and 25-22 at halftime. Quinn-Moultrie made a pair of free throws with 8:25 left in the third quarter to make it a 1-point game, 27-26. That's when Union went on its decisive run, building a 41-29 lead with under four minutes left in the frame. Katz netted 6 points in the surge. The Dutchwomen carried an 11-point lead into the fourth quarter.

The Herons got to within 9 with 7:46 left after two more free throws by Quinn-Moultrie, but Union scored the next 7 points, including a 3-pointer by Cailin Schmeer to push its lead back to 16 and the home team kept a double digit advantage the rest of the way.

William Smith will return home to host Skidmore on Friday, Jan. 29. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
