GENEVA, N.Y.—Six different Statesmen scored as the No. 3/4 Hobart College hockey team downed Utica 7-3. The Statesmen took a 3-2 lead late in the first and held off the Pioneers from there in an ECAC West game in The Cooler tonight.

Hobart extends its unbeaten streak to 11 games, tying for the longest current unbeaten streak in Division III men's ice hockey. The Statesmen have won eight straight and are now 15-2-2 overall and 8-1-0 in the ECAC West. The Pioneers fall to 9-7-3 overall and 3-4-2 in conference play. The two teams will meet again tomorrow, Jan. 30, in The Cooler at 4 p.m.

Brad Robbins tallied four assists for Hobart, tying the program record for assists in a game, and senior
Ben Gamache added two goals and an assist. First-years
Cam Shaheen and
Tanner Shaw as well as senior
Mac Olson each contributed a goal and an assist. Sophomore goaltender
Frank Oplinger played all 60 minutes and made 25 saves.

The action-packed first period featured five goals between the two teams. The Statesmen struck first with a power-play goal 7:50 into the contest. First-year
Tanner Shaw drilled a shot from the blue line after passes from Gamache and Robbins. Utica answered with its first goal at 10:29, when Hayden Dawes found the back of the net. Kevin Kiristis was credited with the assist.

Just 1:28 later, the Statesmen took back the lead, when Shaheen registered his third goal of the year. Sophomore
Jordan Haskell battled for the puck behind the net, pushing it out to Olson. Olson fed Shaheen who lifted his shot into the top right corner of the goal. With 2:43 on the clock, Brett Szajner tied things up at 2-2 for Utica, sending his shot from the blue line just over the glove of Oplinger. Kevin Valenti and Adam Moody earned the assists. With 1:02 remaining in the first period and the Statesmen on the power play, Olson powered home his shot from out in front to give Hobart a 3-2 advantage going into the break. It was his 11th goal of the season. Robbins and Shaw earned the assists.

With 6:31 left in the second period, first-year
Trevor Poirier put the Statesmen up 4-2. Shaheen pushed a pass ahead to Poirier who carried the puck deep into the offensive zone before junior
Nick Bingaman slid his shot slid under the Utica goaltender's pads. Joel Wetmore lifted a shot into the back of the netting with 2:18 remaining in the middle period to get the Pioneers back within one heading into the second intermission. Vinny Stefan registered the assist.

The Statesmen took control of the game in the third, scoring three unanswered goals. At 8:33, Gamache made it 5-3. He took a pass from sophomore
Vincent Russo and then had a one-on-one with the goalie right out in front, placing his shot just over the goaltender's right shoulder. Robbins also registered an assist on the play. Utica pulled its goalie with 3:08 left in the third for the extra skater, but instead, sophomore
Bobby Sokol notched an empty netter. His fifth goal of the season came off an assists from first-year
Jonas Toupal and sophomore
Tyler Wolf. Right after winning the ensuing faceoff and with just 12 seconds ticking off the clock, Gamache posted his second of the night. Robbins earned an assist on the play.

The Statesmen went 2-for-5 on the power play, and killed off Utica's lone power-play chance. Hobart finished with a 42-28 advantage in shots. Michael Fredrick started in goal for the Pioneers and made 28 saves in 49:38. Cory Simic came in for 10:01 and made seven saves.
