SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The frontcourt tandem of junior
Gabrielle Eure and first-year
Mia Morrison powered William Smith College to a 62-51 Liberty League victory at Skidmore College this afternoon. Both players finished with double-doubles as the Herons extended their win streak to three games.
Â
Eure logged game-highs of 20 points, including 14 in the second half, 16 rebounds, and three steals. Morrison notched 12 points, including 10 in the first half, and 10 boards. William Smith nearly had a third double-double as sophomore

Â
The Thoroughbreds (6-4, 1-1) got a team-high 16 points from Veronica Moceri and Haley English added 11 points. Migle Vilunaite collected a team-high 12 caroms.
Â
The game got off to a slow start and was tied at 3-all six minutes in, when the Heron offense came to life first. William Smith, keyed by 5 points from Quinn-Moultrie, ran off an 10-4 run, leading 17-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Â
A Vilunaite layup two and a half minutes into the second quarter got Skidmore within 1, 17-16, but the Herons scored the next 7 points, including a 3-pointer by Quinn-Moultrie, to go up 24-16. William Smith closed the half on a 10-6 run that included 4 points from Morrison to carry a 34-24 lead into the break.
Â
The Herons opened the second half on a 7-4 run that saw the visitors stretch their lead to a game-high 16. William Smith maintained a double digit lead until late in the fourth quarter. After a junior
Melanie Patterson converted a layup for a 56-40 lead, Skidmore used an 11-2 run, including 6 from English, to whittle the Heron advantage down to 7, but William Smith made all four of its free throws in the final 34 seconds to close out the win.
Â
The Herons shot better from the floor (35.8%-31.3%) and the free throw line (73.3%-40%) and controlled the glass, outrebounding the Thoroughbreds 55-43.
Â
William Smith (4-6, 2-0) will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 15, when the Herons visit St. Lawrence. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
