The William Smith College soccer team remained the No. 1 team in the nation in the D3soccer.com poll for the fourth week in a row, receiving all 17 first place votes. The Herons dropped one spot to No. 2 in this week's NSCAA poll.

William Smith improved to 10-0-0 with Liberty League road wins over Skidmore and Rensselaer over the weekend. The Herons have logged shutouts in six of their last seven matches. It's the first time William Smith has opened the season with 10 straight wins since the 1988 season. That year, the Herons logged 14 wins to open the year, before tying St. Lawrence 0-0 and then falling to Cortland in their regular season finale.

William Smith ranks eighth in the nation in assists per game (3.00), ninth in points per game (11.0) and 10th in scoring offense (4.00 g/gm). Senior
Kara Shue leads the team with 24 points on nine goals and six assists. She ranks 19th in the country in points. Sophomore
Veronica Romines has played the most minutes in goal. She's sporting a 0.17 goals against average, a .889 save percentage and a 7-0-0 record. Romines ranks third in Division III in goals against average.

The Herons will face Geneseo in a non-league game on Wednesday, Oct. 5, under the lights on Boswell Field at 7:30 p.m. The Knights bring a 4-1-4 mark to Geneva. Erin O'Connor leads the team with nine points on four goals and an assist. Emily Janiszewski has played the majority of minutes in goal. She's sporting a 0.42 goals against average and a .900 save percentage.

William Smith will resume Liberty League play on Saturday, Oct. 8, when it travels to Clarkson (4-6-0) for a 3 p.m. game. The Golden Knights take on Plattsburgh this afternoon before facing the Herons.
