Pittsburgh, Pa.- The William Smith College ice hockey team and Chatham skated to a 2-2 tie at the Alpha Ice Complex this afternoon. With the tie, the Herons are now 3-4-1 overall and 1-4-1 in ECAC West play.

The Cougars (0-5-1, 0-5-1) struck first when Kassandra Petersen wristed a shot past
Maggie Salmon. Michelle Jones was credited with an assist on the goal.

William Smith tied the game at one when
Maura Mulligan pocketed her third goal of the season at 19:24 of the opening period. Junior
Krista Federow was credited with an assist on the power-play goal. The teams went into intermission tied at one with Chatham holding a 16-7 edge in shots on goal.

The Cougars regained a one goal lead at 5:05 of the second period when Kaitlyn Perrins tallied her first goal of the season. Erika Martin picked up an assist on the goal.

Chatham's 2-1 lead held until 14:59 of the third period when junior
Rebecca Begley fired home the game-tying goal. The power-play goal was Begley's second of the season.

Maggie Salmon made 34 stops in 65 minutes of action in the Herons goal. At the other end of the rink, Sydney Isbell stopped 25 of the 27 shots she faced.

William Smith scored on two of its power plays while Chatham came away empty on its four opportunities.

The Herons will be back in action Dec. 3 when they take on UMass Boston, who is ranked ninth in the nation in the latest D3hockey.com poll. William Smith will wrap up its five-game road trip against Endicott on Dec. 4.
