Saints top Statesmen 73-56

GENEVA, N.Y.—The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team kept pace in the chase for the Liberty League regular season championship with a 73-56 win over Hobart College in Bristol Gym this afternoon.

The Saints remain tied for first with Skidmore and Union, while the Statesmen's hopes took a hit. Hobart is two games out of the fourth and final playoff spot with two games remaining.

Kyle Edwards scored a game-high 23 points for SLU. He was 7-of-10 shooting with four 3-pointers and went 5-of-7 at the free throw line. Kieran Miller added a double-double off the bench, finishing with 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. St. Lawrence shot 45.5 percent from the floor, including 45.5 percent from behind the 3-point arc. The Saints had a 45-41 edge on the glass and turned that edge into a 16-8 advantage in second chance points.

Hobart was led by first-year Matt Walsh's 14 points and seven rebounds. Classmates Jamal Lucas and Colin Dougherty contributed 13 and 10 points, respectively. The Statesmen shot a season-low 26 percent from the floor.

SLU scored the first 4 points of the game and never trailed. Hobart was down 19-12 midway through the first half, but a 13-3 run stretched the Saints' lead to 17. St. Lawrence took its largest lead of the first half, 42-22, on a 3-pointer by Riley Nacierio, but junior Thomas Campion hit a triple of his own to make it a 42-25 game at the half.

Walsh led all scorers with 12 points through 20 minutes.

Hobart was able to whittle its deficit down to 10 three times in the second half, but each time St. Lawrence was able to answer, maintaining its double digit advantage.

The Statesmen will make their final road trip of the season on Feb. 17, making the short trek to RIT for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
