William Smith College seniors
Emy Stratton and
Hannah Connolly each scored four goals as the Heron lacrosse team downed Greensboro College 19-5 in Greensboro, North Carolina, this afternoon for their first win of the season.

The Herons are now 1-3 overall, while the Pride are now 5-3 this year. The win is the first at William Smith for Head Coach
Anne Phillips. Connolly added an assist to lead the Herons with five points. Junior
Alexandra Bird and sophomore
Melissa Moore each posted three goals, and sophohmore
Ella Calder registered a goal and two assists. Moore added a team-high three caused turnovers. Junior

Bizzer Gahagan each chipped in two goals. Sophomore
Kelsi Carr dished out two assists and scooped up a game-high four ground balls.
Geneva Calder and Flaherty each won three draws for William Smith.

Kristin Norris led the Pride with three goals. Natalie Ritchey and Alexa Besch each added a goal and an assist. Kaleigh Hemstock and Ashlynn Parks picked up three ground balls each. Parks added a game-high four caused turnovers and six draws.

Ella Calder struck first for William Smith with a goal off an assist by Carr 2:05 into the game. Greensboro answered with back-to-back goals to make a 2-1 lead. However, the Herons responded with the next four goals for a 5-2 advantage. Connolly started the run and Bird notched back-to-back tallies before Gahagan logged an unassisted goal with 13:54 left in the half. Norris posted her second goal of the day for the Pride to cut the deficit to three, but William Smith closed out the half with three goals for an 8-3 lead at the break. Stratton scored with 7:47 on the clock, followed by Connolly's second of the afternoon. With 2:34 remaining, Stratton struck again, this time with a player-down goal.

The Herons continued to roll at the start of the second half, notching the first four goals for a 12-3 lead. Moore scored twice in the run. Ritchey found the back of the net for Greensboro off a pass from Besch, but Stratton responded with her third of the day. With 15:51 left in the game, Norris logged an unassisted goal for the Pride to make it 13-5. William Smith's offense continued to dominate closing out the game with six goals in the final 13:19. Connolly chipped in the first two of the final run, followed by goals by Bird, Stratton, a player-up goal by Flaherty and Moore.

Junior
Sarah Honan played 30:13 and allowed two goals. Senior
Allie O'Hara came in for 29:45 and made a career-high eight saves. Kaleigh Hemstock played 48:22 in goal for Greensboro and made six saves. Megan Cenate came in for 11:38 and made one stop.

The Herons held a 32-19 advantage in shots and a 21-14 lead in ground balls. The Pride held a 13-10 edge in draws. William Smith was successful on 17-of-24 clear attempts, while Greensboro was successful on eight of 14 tries.

The Herons will be back in action on Tuesday, March 22, when they travel to play another non-league game at 5 p.m.
