Melissa Moore posted her second hat trick in as many days as the Heron lacrosse team defeated the University of Rochester 10-4 in a Liberty League game played in Rochester, N.Y., this afternoon.
The Herons improve to 6-7 overall and 5-1 in the Liberty League. The Yellowjackets fall to 3-9 overall and 0-5 in league play.
Moore added two caused turnovers for the Herons. Sophomore

Laura Rollins scooped up a team-high three ground balls and junior

Jamie Wallisch led Rochester with three points on a goal and two assists and logged a game-high five ground balls. Madeline Levy added a goal and an assist and won a team-high three draws. Maire Prosak made six stops in goal for the Yellowjackets.
Levy put Rochester on the scoreboard first 1:11 into the game. Bird made it 1-1 for William Smith just under four minutes later. With 21:53 on the clock, Breanna Taylor scored off a pass from Levy to give the Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead. Moore logged her first of the day after a pass from
Ella Calder with 17:30 left in the first. Olivia Moutevelis answered for Rochester to give the Yellowjackets a 3-2 advantage. William Smith closed out the opening half with four straight goals to take a 6-3 lead into the break. With 9:38 on the clock, the Calder sisters started the run, with Geneva scoring and Ella earning the assist. Moore added an unassisted tally, followed by
Ella Calder scoring off a feed from Bird. Bird chipped in a goal of her own six seconds before halftime.
Moore completed her hat trick at 26:35 in the second to give the Herons a 7-3 lead. Wallisch found the back of the net for Rochester with 24:41 on the clock, but the Herons took back the momentum scoring the final three goals of the game.
Geneva Calder notched her second of the day with 12:26 remaining, sophomore
Kelsi Carr made it 9-4 with 4:30 to go, and senior
Emy Stratton fired home a shot with 13 seconds left for the final score.
The Herons finished with a 24-11 advantage in shots and a 9-7 edge in draws. Each team registered 12 ground balls. William Smith was successful on 14-of-15 clear attempts, while the Yellowjackets succeeded on 9-of-12 tries.
The Herons are back in action on Saturday, April 23, when they host Union for another Liberty League game at 2 p.m.
