GENEVA, N.Y.- The ninth-ranked William Smith College field hockey team scored two goals in each half as they cruised to a 4-0 non-conference victory over Manhattanville on McCooey Field this afternoon. Four different players scored as the Herons improved to 5-1 on the year.

William Smith jumped in front in the 26th minute when sophomore
Fallon Adair scored her third goal of the season. She fired a low shot from the top of the arc that trickled past Manhattanville goalie Kaitlin Halloran. The goal came off a scramble in front of the Valiants' cage. In the 34th minute, the Herons doubled their lead when
Hannah Wood scored her eighth goal of the season. She picked up a loose ball at the top of the 16-yard arc, dribbled around the two defenders, and fired a shot past Halloran. The goal was the 59th of Wood's career, tying her for second on the Herons all-time list with Jennifer Joinnides '97.

In the second half, junior
Maura Moran notched her third goal of the season to make it 3-0. She redirected a
Cydney Conley shot through Halloran's legs. Just under six minutes later, senior
Alessandra Patrizio notched her eighth goal of the season. Patrizio dribbled the ball along the goal line, dodged a defender, and poked a loose ball through the goalie's legs.

Halloran kept the Valiants (3-3) in the game, making 10 saves in 70 minutes of action. Halloran also got help from the cross bar when senior
Jessica Borbee lifted a shot over her head. In the William Smith goal senior
Biz Chirco got the start and faced no shots in 60:51. Her classmate
Amy Feda made one stop in 9:09 of action. She made a great kick save on Manhattanville's lone shot of the game.

The Valiants could not crack the William Smith defensive line. The Herons backfield unit limited Manhattanville to just one shot and one penalty corner in the contest. William Smith earned 15 penalty corners.

Both teams will be back in action on McCooey Field tomorrow. The Valiants will play St. Lawrence at 11 a.m., and the Herons will take on Lebanon Valley at 2 p.m.
