Game Recap: Hobart Soccer | | Paige Mullin Cooke

Statesmen tie Geneseo 2-2

The Hobart College soccer team battled through 110 minutes for a 2-2 tie at Geneseo in a non-league game this afternoon. It was the second game in a row, and third this season, for the Statesmen that has gone into overtime.

Hobart is now 1-3-2, and the Knights are 3-2-1. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, but it was postponed to this afternoon based on lightning forecasted in the area.

After a scoreless first half, Matt D'Amico gave the Knights a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute. Alex Car sent the ball into the box, and D'Amico one-touched it past the keeper. In the 70th minute, first-year Ben Orr tied things up with his first goal as a Statesman. Junior Nick Dosky set up the play. Just 2:26 later, senior JP White gave Hobart a 2-1 advantage. First-year Mike Goulart sent a through ball into the box to earn the assist.

In the 79th minute, D'Amico struck again for the Knights, scoring on a hard shot from 16 yards out, tying the game at 2-2 and sending it into overtime. The Statesmen had one shot in each overtime period and earned on corner in the second OT. Geneseo had a corner in the first OT, and logged three shots in the second overtime.

The Knights finished with an 18-14 lead in shots, while the Statesmen held a 6-5 edge in corners. Sophomore Alec Kaminer played the entire match in goal for Hobart and made six saves. Dillon Medd finished with three saves in goal for Geneseo.

The Statesmen will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 20, when they host Utica for a non-league game at 4:30 p.m.
