The William Smith College soccer team downed Cortland 3-0 to secure the Upstate Collegiate Cup for the second year in a row, in a non-league game played in Cortland, N.Y., this afternoon. The Herons, who are ranked No. 1 in the D3soccer.com poll, are now 7-0-0.

It was Ruane's turn to score in the 70th minute. She drilled her shot off the goalie's hands and into the back of the net for her third goal this season.

The Herons finished with 17 shots, and the William Smith defense limited the Red Dragons to just two shots. Each team earned five corners. Sophomore

Alessandra Bryan came in for the final 11:30 and did not face a shot. Victoria Barclay played all 90 minutes in goal for Cortland and made eight saves.

William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 24, when it hosts St. Lawrence for its Liberty League opener at 3 p.m.
