Hobart College soccer opened Liberty League play by taking down No. 5 St. Lawrence 1-0 in Canton, N.Y., this afternoon.
Â
It's the highest ranked opponent the Statesmen have defeated since upsetting then No. 1 Messiah 2-1 in overtime on Sept. 3, 2010, in Grantham, Pa.
Â
The Statesmen are now 3-3-2 overall. Hobart served the Saints their first loss of the season (7-1-0). Â It was first-year
Nate Cary's first career goal in the 41st minute that powered the Statesmen to the victory.
Â
Sophomore
Alec Kaminer earned his first career shutout, playing all 90 minutes in goal for Hobart and turning aside all three shots he faced. Jason Schierbeek finished with four saves in goal for the Saints.
Â
St. Lawrence recorded a 13-8 advantage in shots and a 5-1 lead in corners.
Â
The Statesmen will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 30, when they host Skidmore for another Liberty League game at 4 p.m. on Cozzens Field.
