GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College sophomore guard
Natalia Baum led four Herons in double figures with 16 points in a 65-54 Liberty League victory over Union College. William Smith took control of the contest with a 10-0 run midway through the third quarter.
Baum was 6-of-13 shooting from the field while also contributing four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Sophomore forward

Melanie Patterson recorded 11 points, and a game-high four steals. First-year guard
Annaliese Schreder contributed a season-high 10 points off the bench.
Erin Lyons led the Dutchwomen 16 points. Nicole Conley added 12 points off the bench. Abby Katz pulled down a game-high eight rebounds to go with seven points.
William Smith (9-3, 3-0 LL) eked out a 17-16 lead after the first quarter and carried a 34-31 lead into halftime. The Herons were still clinging to a 3-point lead with about four and a half minutes remaining in the third quarter, when they went on their 10-0 run. Schreder and Patterson both contributed 3-point plays during the surge, the former from beyond the arc and the latter the old fashion way.
William Smith pushed its advantage to as many as 15 early in the fourth quarter, but Union closed the gap to just six on a free throw by Katz with just over two minutes remaining. The Herons iced the game by going 5-of-6 at the free throw line down the stretch.
William Smith will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 13, when the Herons host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Tipoff in Bristol Gym is at 6 p.m. Union returns to action on Jan. 20 when the Dutchwomen host Bard College.
