Statesmen host 2 non-league games this weekend

The Hobart College hockey team will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 13 and Saturday, Jan. 14, hosting non-conference games against No. 13/14 Salve Regina and the University of New England. The No. 9/10 Statesmen will take on the Seahawks at 7 p.m. on Friday night and face the Nor'easters on Saturday at 4 p.m.
 
Hobart brings a 7-2-3 overall record into the weekend. The Statesmen traveled to Europe, playing exhibition games over the break, but this will be their first game counting toward their record since battling Trinity to a 4-4 tie back on Dec. 9 in The Cooler.
 
Senior Bobby Sokol leads the team with 11 points on six goals and five assists. Classmate Nick Bingaman is right behind him with 10 points on nine goals and an assist. Bingaman is tied for 12th in the nation in goals per game (0.75). Hobart currently ranks seventh in Division III on the penalty kill (88.5 percent) and is tied for 13th in team win percentage (.708).
 
Junior Frank Oplinger and first-year Alexander Connal have split time in goal for Hobart. Oplinger is sporting a 2.81 goals against average, a .917 save percentage and a 2-2-1 record. Connal has a 4-0-2 record, a 2.11 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. Connal ranks sixth in the nation in win percentage (.833), 22nd in save percentage and 25th in goals against average.
 
Salve Regina will be the third nationally ranked opponent the Statesmen have played this season. The Seahawks bring a 9-2-2 overall record to Geneva. Jack Billings leads the team with 20 points and 15 assists. Blake Wojtala has played the most minutes in goal. He's sporting a 1.87 goals against average and a .946 save percentage.
 
The University of New England takes on Utica on Friday night before coming to The Cooler. The Nor'easters bring a 6-5-1 overall record into the weekend. Brady Fleurent is leading the team with 24 points on seven goals and 17 assists. Connor Maloney has played the most minutes. He's 1-3-1 in goal with a 4.00 goals against average and an .841 save percentage. Tate Sproxton has played in goal most recently. He has a 3-1-0 record, a 2.76 goals against average and a .912 save percentage.
