GENEVA, N.Y.—The No. 5 William Smith College soccer team extended its win streak to eight games with a 3-0 Liberty League victory over Union College this afternoon on Cozzens Field. The Herons have now logged five straight shutouts.
It was William Smith's seventh shutout this fall. The Herons improve to 11-1-0 and 6-0-0 in the Liberty League. The Dutchwomen fall to 5-4-2 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play. Three different Herons scored in the win. Junior goalie
Veronica Romines earned her fifth shutout of the season, stopping the three shots she faced.

Sarah Olick-Sutphen started the scoring for the Herons 8:35 into the contest. She collected a loose ball in the box and drilled her shot into the far right side of the goal for her first goal this season. Sophomore
Elizabeth Moore notched her fourth goal this fall in the 32nd minute. She scored on a diving header after a corner kick sent into the box by junior

Evie Manning closed out the scoring in the 54th minute, capitalizing on a penalty kick. Manning now leads William Smith with 10 goals and 24 points this year.
Union's best scoring chance came in the 56th minute. Amanda Ashmen fired a shot on goal from just outside of the box. Romines had to dive to her right to just get her fingers on the ball and push it to the right of the post, preserving the shutout. The Dutchwomen were awarded a corner, but the ball was cleared out of the box by the William Smith defense.
The Herons finished with a 12-4 advantage in shots and an 8-1 lead in corners. Allison Sorkenn played all 90 minutes in goal for Union and made six saves.
William Smith is back in action tomorrow, Oct. 14, when it hosts Rensselaer for another Liberty League game at 2 p.m.
