GENEVA, N.Y.—The No. 14 Ohio Northern women's soccer team scored 23 seconds into overtime to clinch a 1-0 win over No. 2 William Smith College in an NCAA Tournament third round match played on Cozzens Field today.
The Herons finished their season with a 19-2-0 overall record. The Polar Bears improve to 20-1-2 this season and advance to the quarterfinals where they will face the No. 3 Hardin-Simmons. The Cowgirls edged No. 8 Carnegie Mellon 1-0 in the other third round game being played on Cozzens Field this afternoon.
Ohio Northern's Jenna Fuller scored the game winner. She took a go-ahead pass from Sydney Leshnak and was able to capitalize on a one-on-one with the Heron keeper.
William Smith finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots and a 7-4 lead in corners. Each team came extremely close to scoring in regulation with both teams recording team saves. With 19:45 left in regulation, first-year
Lindsey Jameson fired a shot on goal for the Herons. Her shot was out of the reach of the Polar Bears' keeper, but Mary Kate Munz was on the goal line to clear out the chance and preserve the scoreless tie.
With 12:10 left in the second half, Fuller got by the Heron keeper and fired at the open goal, but her scoring chance was denied by a clear out by senior
Kate Spiegel.
Junior
Veronica Romines finished with three saves in goal for William Smith. Meagan Grierson made four saves in all 90:23 for the Polar Bears.

Kate Spiegel led William Smith to a 75-7-3 four year record, four Liberty League regular season and tournament titles and four trips to the NCAA tournament.
The Herons' 19 wins this season are tied for fourth on the William Smith single season list. Their 53 goals are tied for sixth, and their 148 points, 42 assists, 0.29 goals against average and 15 shutouts all rank seventh.
Tomorrow's quarterfinal match featuring Ohio Northern and Hardin-Simmons will be played on Cozzens Field at 1 p.m.
