GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College soccer team topped Vassar College 2-0 to capture the 2017 Liberty League Tournament title today on Cozzens Field. It's the first time the Statesmen have won the tournament championship since 2009.
Hobart earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It's the first time the Statesmen have made the NCAA Tournament since 2011.
Hobart is now 10-4-4 overall. Junior
Alex Weisbein scored both of the Statesmen's goals and was named the Liberty League Tournament MVP. Junior

Hunter Critchlow joined Weisbein on the all-tournament team. Tanner Sands, Reid Smith, Hayden Van Brewer and Matt Mrlik represented Vassar, Brendan McNamee and Simon Garno of RIT rounded out the all-tournament squad.
Vassar finished its season with a 10-5-3 overall record. Kaminer made six saves in goal for Hobart. Matt Marcelino stopped five shots in goal for Vassar.
Weisbein opened the scoring with a header goal in the 29th minute. First-year
August Martini sent a free kick in from about 15 yards outside of the box. He found Weisbein out in front, who notched his first goal this fall. It was Martini's first collegiate point. In the 63rd minute, Weisbein struck again. This time he scored from just inside the box, stopping an attempt by the Brewer defense to clear the ball out of the zone. He drilled his shot through traffic in front of the goal.
The Brewers finished with a 15-14 edge in shots. Hobart had a 6-5 lead in corners.
