Hobart hosts Castleton, #3 Norwich this weekend

The No. 6/10 Hobart College hockey team will host two New England Hockey Conference games in The Cooler this weekend. The Statesmen take on Castleton on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m., and then host No. 3/4 Norwich on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m.
 
The Statesmen are 3-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play. Hobart is ranked No. 6 by D3hockey.com and No. 10 in the USCHO.com poll. First-year Mike Faulkner leads the Statesmen with six points on a goal and five assists. He ranks second in the nation in points per game by a defenseman (2.00) and is tied for second in points per game by a first-year. Sophomore Jonas Toupal is right behind him with five points on three goals and two assists.
 
Sophomore Alexander Connal and senior Frank Oplinger have split time in goal. Connal has a 1.49 goals against average, a .930 save percentage and a 2-0-0 record. Oplinger is sporting a 1.95 goals against average, an .895 save percentage and a 1-1-0 record.
 
Castleton brings a 1-2-0 overall record and an 0-2-0 mark in conference play to The Cooler. Caleb Fizer, Trevor Hanna and Ryan Smith have each notched three points. Fizer and Hanna have a goal and two assists apiece and Smith has logged three assists. Ryan Mulder has played the most minutes in goal. He's sporting a 4.00 goals against average, an .873 save percentage and a 1-1-0 record.
 
The defending national champion, Norwich brings a 2-1-0 overall record and a 2-0-0 mark in NEHC play into the weekend. The Cadets will play at Skidmore on Friday night before coming to Geneva. Todd Jackson, Coby Downs and Kevin Salvucci have each recorded a team-high three points. Jackson has three goals, Downs has two goals and an assist and Salvucci has three assists. Braeden Ostepchuk has played every minute in goal. He has registered a 1.67 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.
 
Fans unable to make it to The Cooler can follow the action online with Live Stats and All-Access Video. The games will also be broadcast live on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
