Hobart visits Skidmore in Liberty League semifinals

The Hobart College basketball team will travel to Skidmore College in the semifinal round of the Liberty League Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Tipoff in the Williamson Sports Center is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Fans can follow the action online with streaming video and Live Stats.

Hobart finished the regular season with a 15-10 overall record and finished tied for third place in the league standings with a 10-6 mark. The Statesmen enter the Liberty League Tournament as the No. 4 seed.

Skidmore has a 19-6 overall record and won the league's regular season title with a 14-2 mark. The Thoroughbreds won both regular season meetings with Hobart by a combined total of five points. Skidmore took the lead with nine seconds remaining for a 70-69 win in Geneva and eked out an 87-83 win on its home floor.

The game will feature the Thoroughbreds high-powered offense against the Statesmen's stingy defense. Skidmore leads the league in field goal percentage (.484) and 3-point field goal percentage (.370) and is second in scoring offense (79.2 ppg). Hobart leads the conference in field goal percentage defense (.409) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (.300) and is second in scoring defense (68.9 ppg).

Hobart is led by the backcourt trio of sophomores Colin Dougherty and Jamal Lucas and first-year Tucker Lescoe. Dougherty is eighth in the league in scoring (16.6 ppg). Lescoe and Lucas are 18th and 19th, producing 12.4 ppg and 12.3 ppg, respectively. Dougherty and Lucas share the team lead in rebounding (4.6 rpg).

Skidmore also has three players averaging double figures, sophomore Edvinas Rupkus and seniors Aldin Medunjanin and Royce Parris. Rupkus is second in the league at 20.9 ppg, Medunjanin is ninth at 16.1 ppg, and Royce adds 13.2 ppg. (He's not listed in the league leaders because he has only played in 13 games.)

This will be the fourth time the two teams have squared off in the Liberty League Tournament. In 2010, Hobart defeated Skidmore 83-76 in a semifinal game played in Canton, N.Y. Two years later, the Thoroughbreds beat the Statesmen in the championship game in Bristol Gym. In 2013, Hobart posted a 77-72 semifinal victory in Geneva.

The Statesmen lead the all-time series against the Thoroughbreds 35-17, but Skidmore has won each of the past four meetings. Hobart is looking for its first win in Saratoga Springs since Jan. 24, 2015 (70-63).
